Basic Startup Common Questions

Basic Startup

It says I need to enter a Registration Number. Where can I find this?

There is a label with your registration number located on the inside of your DataTags CD case.

Why am I receiving an error message when I try to run an Update?

Make sure you are connected to the internet first. This is the only time that you are required to be online.

It is also possible that you have a firewall or use a proxy server. If you have a firewall, change the settings to allow FTP connections or disable it temporarily while running the update. If you use a proxy server, go to File, Configuration, General, Download/FTP, and check "I connect to the internet using a proxy server". Enter your LAN IP Address.

When I click on CREATE TAGS, I receive "Run-Time Error 429: ActiveX component can't create object".

DataTags requires Microsoft Word on your computer. Most likely, you don’t have it installed on your computer. Word Perfect will not work.

The installation has completed, but when I click on the DataTags icon, it will not connect to enter my registration.

This is an FTP type connection. Be sure you are connected to the internet. If you are, the FTP connection is probably blocked by a firewall.

Tag Printing Common Questions

starWhen I click on PRINT, nothing happens.

The templates will work on most Laser & Ink Jet printers. Some Ink jet printers require greater margins. If your Ink Jet requires a greater margin, you will receive a message Margins are set outside the printable area of the page. This message will be hidden if you use the PRINT button on DataTags. Instead, use the Preview button. Click on the print icon at the top of Word to print your tags. When you get the error message, click Yes to the question "Do you want to continue?"

To rid yourself of this message, your templates need to be adjusted to give you greater margins.

starWe have some models that we want to print tags for that don’t seem to be in the system.

Change the "Models to Include" to All. This will include not only current models, but models that have been discontinued.

starHow can I view the features and rebate information for a particular model?

Right click on the model number. Here, you can view the features, dimensions, warranty, rebate information, and current MAP. You can make edits here and add a Local Rebate.

starIs there a way to add my own Sales Code or Local SKU on my tags?

Yes. Go to "Default Tag Settings" and under "Salesperson Code Field contents, choose "Local Sell Code". This will allow you to enter a "Local Selling Code" when you right click on a model number. This will be printed on your tags where the "Sell Code" field is.

Templates Common Questions

I made changes to the template and saved it. When I go to DataTags, it does not appear in the Template List.

First, was DataTags closed when you saved the template? Any changes to templates are loaded into DataTags when you click on the "Create Tags" button.

Next, go to your C: Drive, DATATAGS folder, TEMPLATES folder. Look for the template. Make sure the name of the template starts with "MPLS INSTLD ". If it doesn't, it will not show up in DataTags. Rename the template. Make sure the template is a .DOT file. If, for type, it says "Microsoft Word Document" instead of "Microsoft Word Template", it won't show up. Save it as a .DOT file.

Can I rename the template?

You can name the template anything you want, as long as it is in this form in the TEMPLATE folder:

MPLS INSTLD ANY NAME HERE.DOT (DOT is the file type)

This template will show up in DataTags as:

ANY NAME HERE

When I print tags, I get a blank sheet printing after every page of tags.

While customizing your template, you added space to a row, causing the bottom of the tags to go past the bottom margin and creating a second page for your template. You need to decrease the size of a row by the same amount that you increased the other row.

While customizing a template, I made some changes that did not work out. I saved over the original template. Can I get the original template back?

We have a backup folder of templates. Go to C:Drive, DATATAGS folder, EXTRA TEMPLATES folder.

Find the template, and copy and paste it from this folder into the TEMPLATES folder.

When customizing a template, it is best to rename it before you save it, so you don't save over your old templates.
